Nick Wishart.  Interdisciplinary Artist, Musician & Composer

Nick Wishart is an award-winning artist whose work sits at the intersection of movement, sound, light, and interactivity. With over 25 years of experience in electronic music, live performance, and interactive installations, Nick has developed groundbreaking motion-activated musical instruments, most notably Round Sounds—wireless MIDI controllers that translate human motion into sound, light, and video.

His practice is deeply collaborative and includes large-scale, site-specific installations and immersive performance works. Notable projects include:

  • Lightworks – an audio-reactive LED installation shown at the Newtown ArtSeat.
  • Beacon of Hope – a permanent, solar-powered, weather-responsive light sculpture installed in Narrandera.
  • North Sydney Art Prize (2024) – Winner of the Emerging Artist Award.

Nick’s current work focuses on movement-responsive sound and light environments, using real-time sensors (gyroscopes, accelerometers, ultrasonic sensors) to create multisensory, improvisational experiences. His collaborations span contemporary dance, circus, and experimental music, bringing a unique integration of gesture-based performance, spatial sound, and generative visuals.

As co-creator of Visible Frequencies, Nick brings technical and artistic expertise in spatial sound design and interactive visual systems to MAP mima’s 360° projection Cube.

Skye Gellmann. Experimental Performer & Circus Artist

Skye Gellmann is an acclaimed interdisciplinary artist with a background in contemporary circus, improvisation, and experimental performance. With over two decades of experience, Skye’s work navigates the blurred edges between physical performance, installation art, and responsive environments.

Their performances are often site-specific, pushing the limits of physical expression while exploring how the body can act as both sculptural and sonic material. Skye’s work has been presented at:

  • Next Wave Festival
  • Sydney Festival
  • Melbourne Fringe (Winner – Best Circus)
  • Edinburgh Fringe Festival
  • Performance Space: Liveworks

Trained at the National Institute of Circus Arts (NICA), Skye brings an embodied understanding of movement and risk, paired with an improvisational sensibility honed through years of performance innovation.

In Visible Frequencies, Skye uses their body as a live interface with Nick’s Round Sounds instruments—sculpting sound and image through movement. Their intuitive, spatial performance style is key to translating gesture into immersive 360° audiovisual narratives, making them an essential creative force in the development and realisation of this project.

Joint Practice – Visible Frequencies

Wishart and Gellmann’s collaboration merges interactive technology with embodied performance, transforming movement into immersive sound and light. Together, they create multi-sensory experiences that are live, responsive, and tailored for cutting-edge spaces like MAP mima’s Cube. Their shared interest in synesthesia, gesture-based composition, and audience immersion underpins their experimental approach, making Visible Frequencies a powerful exploration of what performance can become in a fully responsive 360° environment.
